Here's the real link.
If your old bios won't support the actual WD400 drive size you can short:
on single drive, pins 3-4 and 5-6
on dual master, pins 1-2 and 5-6
on dual slave, pins 3-4 and 1-2

You say NOT to use double jumper setting when using XP (Pro?)
ReplyDeleteWhy? I need to get files off of one that will not seem to let me on it any other way. Bios recignizes but, will then lock up and not let you boot from either drive. Unplug and all is well again! BUt, I need that info....family pictures a certain redhead REALLY wants!! LOL
The two jumper scenario should be used if your bios is detecting the drive size incorrectly. Running XP will neither help nor hurt if your drive size can't be detected correctly.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if the lockups are a result of your drive failing and not a size support issue, the jumper configuration won't make a difference.
